I've always liked Johnny Depp as an actor and interpreter of characters, and I've always considered Robert Rodriguez an inspired moviemaker in the popular folklore way. Between the two, in "Once Upon A Time In Mexico", the 2003 conclusion to the "El Mariachi" / "Desperado" trilogy, they created a character that spoke to me like no other. The result? Beth goes head-deep into another fandom, one that's small and somewhat elite and choke-full of talented writers and artists.
My OUATIM fics are, perhaps, more visceral than others. The "Back in the Fold" cycle is pure gen, no romance, and remarkable in itself. Others have the same concentration: emotion, survival, life and death. It's only rock and roll, but I like it.
